This website is intended to make available materials which will be of use (hopefully) to anyone with a serious interest in the work of Gareth Evans, especially his posthumously published The Varieties of Reference.
Chapter guides are not commentaries. Each is a sort of precis of the chapter, with special attention to clarifying the structure of the core arguments, and shedding light on how individual discussions fit into the project of the book. Their purpose is to make a difficult book more accessible, not to engage critically in any detailed way with it.
The materials here are updated versions of materials that have been up for a long time. Everything linked to the left is a draft that is in progress. I am putting these drafts up because, while they are incomplete and imperfect, they are better than the materials that were up before. I hope to have the latest, and final version, uploaded in mid-2019.\
