Gareth Evans |
This website is intended to make available materials which will be of use (hopefully) to anyone with a serious interest in the work of Gareth Evans, expecially his posthumously published The Varieties of Reference.
Chapter guides are not commentaries. Each is a sort of precis of the chapter, with special attention to clarifying the structure of the core arguments, and shedding light on how individual discussions fit into the project of the book. Their purpose is to make a difficult book more accessible, not to engage critically in any detailed way with it.
The page of related links includes links to Evans-related materials on the web. If you are aware of such material, please drop me a line and bring it to my attention.
All of the material available from this site (except for the 'related links' section) is the product of Rick Grush. Accordingly, the copyright to all materials here belongs to Rick Grush, unless otherwise noted. Please read, use, and distibute all these materials for any noncommercial uses freely. Comments welcome.
[This guide and some of the materials in it are based on an earlier version which was started in collaboration with Pete Mandik. Guides for Chapters One, Two and Three are based on earlier versions done in collaboration with Mandik, though the versions here have been modified and updated. Later chapter guides, as they appear, are done exclusively by me. This guide is currently under construction, and is being updated and incremented continually. Comments are very welcome.]
